The Operations department first appears on an organisational chart from January 1981. The area was previously known as Production. Operations represents the factory floor of Pigment Manufacturers of Australia Limited. It was in this area that the actual manufacturing process occurred.

At the head of the Operations department was the Operations Manager, Simon Balfour-Browne, who reported directly to the General Manager of the company.
