Soft Drinks (continued) Barretts Aerated Waters, a branch of the English firm, was well established in Sydney in the seventies.[107] It, too, was mechanized in all aspects including bottle washing, filling and bottling; it, too, used multiple filtration of water (through a charcoal bed) which was controlled analytically; and it, too, used flavour extracts in its formulations. Its capacity was 70,000 bottles per day. Soft drink technology, essentially as we know it today, was therefore well established in Australia over one hundred years ago. Modern developments relate to automation and, particularly, to the easier movement of materials and finished products.
