Scope and Content

CSIRO Archives holds correspondence, minutes and reports refering to Sir Ian Wark's work as Chief of the CSIRO Division of Industrial Chemistry 1939 - 1958, as Director and Chairman of the CSIRO Chemical Research Laboratories 1958 - 1960 and as a member of the CSIRO Executive 1961 - 1965. This collection comprises 34 boxes of documents totalling 5.78 linear metres. Certain sections, as specified in the Handlist, are restricted. A complete set of Sir Ian Wark's publications is already housed in the Basser Library of the Australian Academy of Science. Duplicate copies have been forwarded with this collection. Most of the material was housed in Sir Ian's office at the CSIRO Division of Mineral Chemistry in Port Melbourne with a small amount at his home. The two sources were combined and all subsequent work done in situ. The papers were well organised and this order has been preserved.
