The Honorary Secretary of the Australian Society for Immunology (later, the Australian Socety for Immunology Incorporated, and the Australasian Society for Immunology Incorporated after that) was responsible for dealing with the professional records of the Society. For example, the Honorary Secretary dealt with conference records, reports, professional correspondence with individuals (including Society Members) and organisations, membership records and so forth.

The Honorary Secretary did not deal with general administrative records after 1984, when the Secretariat was employed to look after the administrative, secretarial and basic financial operation of the Society.

In 1993, the Society required potential candidates for the position of Honorary Secretary be nominated and seconded, and appointed by election for a period of three years, with an option to re-appoint after that time. As indicated in the chronology below, while many Honorary Secretaries remained for a three year term some were in the position for a shorter period.
