Nugent, Keith Alexander (1959 - )

Nugent was appointed Professor of Physics at the University of Melbourne in 1993. At 34, he was one of the university's youngest ever professorial appointments. In 1996 Nugent was appointed Head of School. He is a world leader in research into x-ray optics, near-field microscopy and biophysical imaging.

Born 28 June 1959. Educated University of Adelaide (BSc) and Australian National University (PhD). AINSE Research Fellow, Australian National University 1984-85, Lecturer in Physics, University of Melbourne 1985-90, Visiting Research Scientist, University of California 1989, Senior Lecturer in Physics, University of Melbourne 1991, Reader/Associate Professor of Physics 1991-93, Professor 1993-. Chair Australian Institute of Physics (Victorian Branch) 1995-96. R&D 100 Award ("Research and Development") 1988, Pawsey Medal, Australian Academy of Science 1989, Edgeworth David Medal, Royal Society of New South Wales 1993.
