Early technology (continued)

Other successful Australian contributions to gas industry technology included the 'Tindale' condenser and the 'Duratar' process of tar distillation patented by Harold Tindale of the Australian Gas Light Company. Many gas engineers were innovators, particularly those in charge of the smaller country Works. The retort charging machine devised by Charles Krummel at Wagga Wagga in the 1940s and the 'Tipper dip' invented much earlier in Victoria are but two of many examples of local technological innovation.
