6. Education And Research (continued) An increasing amount of attention to petroleum projects in recent times has resulted in the setting up of APIRA within the overall framework of AMIRA. In some instances projects have been jointly funded by the petroleum industry and mineral exploration companies. A further important instance of collaborative action amongst the exploration and mining groups in the fields of education and research is the work of Australian Mineral Foundation. The short specialist courses given by Australian and visiting experts at the Adelaide headquarters and in other Australian and neighbouring centres, constitute a valuable form of continuing and further education for operators and researchers, and the computer based library and data services are an increasingly useful ancillary function for the industries.
