Fibreboards (continued)

A significant technological innovation occurred in the fibreboard industry in 1982 with the establishment of a medium-density fibreboard plant by ACI Australia Ltd. at Wagga, NSW. This process, which had been in use overseas for some years, is based on the resin-bonding of a dry-formed board made from radiata pine de-fibred in pressurized disc refiners. The product is designed to compete mainly with thin particle-board and plywood and has advantages over hardboard because of its better colour and lower density.
