Also included are the minutes of a Conference (extending over two days: 15th and 17th Jan. 1921) of the Chemical Institute members attending the 1921 AAAS Melbourne Meeting. Topics discussed there Included Incorporation of the Institute, Qualifications for Fellowship and Minimum Salaries for Chemists. A.E. Contains typewritten minutes, pasted into a foolscap-size journal of 191 numbered pages, for the monthly Committee Meetings, Annual General Meetings for 1922, 1923, 1924 and 1925, as well as two special Committee Meetings, five General Meetings and the inaugural Half-yearly Meeting in March 1926. Throughout this period the principal issue discussed involved the qualifications for admission as Associates to the Institute and in particular, addressed the standards of Chemical Training provided in the Technical College system. A second recurring item related to the Institute's representation on sub-committees of the Commonwealth Engineering Standards Association where chemical matters were involved. Finally the employment and remuneration of Chemists was an on-going matter for discussion and especially in regard to Government employment. Presidents of the Victorian Branch were as follows: 1920-22 A.E. Leighton; 1922-23 R.J Lewis; 1923-24 Sir David Orme Masson; 1924-26 Dr F.H. Campbell; 1926- Marcus Bell. Contains the handwritten minutes of the inaugural meeting held Friday, 11th August, 1916, together with those of four of the Provisional Committee held between October 1916 and August 1917. Minutes of General Meetings, all Committee Meetings, the Annual General Meeting for 1918 and a Special Committee Meeting (1st July, 1919) make up this Volume. Orme Masson was Chairman throughout this period. Microform copies held at the Victorian Branch office of RACI.
