On 1 January 1961 the RAAF College was reconstituted as the RAAF Academy and affiliated to the University of Melbourne for the purpose of instruction of cadets to the degree of Bachelor of Science. The first year of the course was provided at Point Cook, with research facilities at the University of Melbourne provided for later years.
