Anderson practised as a chemical analyst in Melbourne from 1910 and lectured in applied chemistry at the University of Melbourne 1925-46. He was an adviser to various Australian governments and published a number of research papers. |

Born Melbourne, 11 June 1885. Died Canterbury, Victoria, 22 August 1969. Educated Ballarat School of Mines (assayer's certificate), assistant demonstrator in chemistry, Ballarat School of Mines 1904-05, lecturer in Chemistry, Working Men's College and a science master, Wesley College 1906-07, adviser to the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works and analyst for the inspector of explosives 1908-09, associate to D. Avery 1910-14, University of Melbourne research scholarship in chemistry (working from his own laboratories into nitrogen in rain-water) 1913-15, partner, Avery and Anderson, consulting chemists 1915-69, adviser to the Commonwealth on the availability of potassium from alunite, ash and kelp, on fuel economy and on setting up the white erthnware pottery industry from 1916, part-time lecturer in applied chemistry, University of Melbourne 1925-46. Member of the provisional committee which in 1917 founded the Australian Chemical Institute, president, Society of Chemical industry of Victoria 1922, president, Victorian Branch, Australian Chemical Institute 1931-32, general president 1948; President, Royal Society of Victoria 1957-58. | |
